L.A. Lesson: Skateboard City

November 2, 2008 | Filed Under Exclusives, L.A. Lesson, OG Dude, Skateboarding, stardum | 36 Comments

Anywhere in “El Lay” you will see a groups boys skateboarding on any surface, at any time, anywhere. The places I see these guys in are odd to say the least. They try to skate on rails, roofs, yes roofs, tops of trucks, perimeter walls and of course sidewalks and streets. They are oblivious to on coming traffic, and they actually seem to think that you should get out of their way because they are coming in your direction. They do all these flips and jumps without any headgear or joint pads. To them protection is for the weak and the less protection you have the more it shows your “ride” experience. Other then the damage skating causes to property, this activity is a lot better than these kids getting involved in illegal activities such as gangbanging, drug dealing or prostitution. These skateboarders look out for each other and actually have a fun time doing it. This is why the city of Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Department has built so many skateparks throughout the city. These skateparks have many ramps, bridges, and other obstacles that these boarders can enjoy. The good part, it is all done with adult staff supervision. Wow, what a concept.
Until the next lesson, “Stay Down.”

Rob Dyrdek Doesn’t Blaze

Rob Dyrdek wants you to know a few things about him: First, he does not smoke weed. Second, he works from 7:30 am until Midnight everyday and Thirdly, he is a dead, dead serious business man. If all that still makes you wanna try and get the guy to do some Jager Bombs, a few whippets, and smoke a blunt which ya, well good luck. We doubt the guy will even light your water pipe for you. Now all those fine qualities listed in no way make Rob Dyrdek any less of a party animal nor do they make him any more of a business man. After all George Soros the Billionaire Investor has been high most of his successful career and that was only after giving up a regime of hard drinking so…We say to each his own. Dyrdek is a hell’va skater and a heck’va business tycoon. The guy is doing pretty good for himself in the world of skating, reality TV and marketing. If you’re looking for the complete scoop on all things Rob Dyrdek look no further then the newest issue of Skinnie Magazine. Skinnie mag has an interview with the skater that lays it all on the line, the partying, the street vibe, the Big and the Black. So if you’re lookin’ to burn one on a sunny day you’re better off reading about Rob Dyrdek then inviting him to join the session. Skate or die…even if you’re high as hell.

L.A. Secrets

Still skating? Good, so are we. Here’s the next few spots laid in the L.A. City Beat by Mr. John Lee:

Skate Spots:
Glendale Verdugo Skatepark: They say there’s a fee for non-residents. That’s not punk rock. The site was designed mainly by 90’s pro skater Ben Schroeder, famous for the vert.
We’re waiting for a few reviews still to arrive.
Location: 1621 Canada Blvd., Glendale

Hernandez Ledges 2.0: A bunch of ledges, drops and ramps built from concrete on old loading docks and building foundations spread across acres of wasteland. Show up and set up a spot to shred.
Location: the intersection of Avenue 23 and Humboldt St. in Highland Park.

Not So Secret Spot

When you skate you need hot sick spots that float just under the radar or you’re going to be skating the same spot with the same heads for days and days. This section of STARDUM Entertaiment is from the heart and the foot. We want a large archive of not so secret spots to dominate the landscape of street skating online. We like to skate. We like to explore. We want you to do the same thing and let us know all about the spots you find and the tricks you pull there.

With all that goodwill in mind we present you with a few not so secret spots we found, not through skating but through reading the words of John Lee. Mr. Lee has given us a small list of cool spots to hit up, right here in the Los Angeles area.
Skate Spots:
Garavanza Skatepark: Not quite open yet says Lee but is skateable. Watchout for the Man and skate with freedom.
Location: Meridian and N. Figueroa Sts. L.A.

Channel Street Skatepark: Lee says this is the finest DIY park around town. We are planning a STARDUM STREET TEAM Challenge there in the near future.
Location: Underneath the Channel St. overpass of the 110 freeway in San Pedro., Los Angeles. Ask for Robbie Russo.

Belvedere Park: Recently Opened with major ribbon cutting ceremony(ya,right). We haven’t been yet, but just like the overpass spot expect STARDUM STREET TEAM soon.
Location: 4914 E. Cesar E. Chavez Ave., Los Angeles

STARDUM ENTERTAINMENT fully endorses the activity of skateboarding when done in a manner that carries out the pure tradition of thrashing, grinding, and going crazy; Legally of course and with the well being of others in mind.
